STORIES IN COLOR

~Reading the History of the World Through Traditional Handmade Textiles~

The diverse legacy of textile form, design and pattern is steeped in richness and is
fascinating to me in the sense that cultures, unrelated by vast distance, have consistently created similar ways of design and construction, while retaining their Indigenous individuality. Each textile tells its own story and epitomizes the culture in which it was created.

I have delighted in and collected textiles for as long as I can remember, and have implemented
them into my interior design and my art. The textiles used in my current creations began their life in Africa, Asia, including India, Japan, Thailand and China, Mexico, Central America and Italy and France.

Every piece is hand-stitched, using Japanese Sashiko stitching, which is a beautiful art, and one that I will be learning and perfecting for years to come. I want these pieces to maintain their primitive appearance and appeal, and I have found that using a backdrop of
painted corrugated cardboard provides a perfect complement to the textiles and the story I hope they tell. Using available materials to express the beauty and importance of everyday objects, people and animals and their role in daily life, gives us a glimpse into the past and my interest and curiosity around the subject continues to grow.
